Where to take family photos in Panama City Beach
The whole coastline is beautiful, but a few spots stand out for family sessions. The main beaches along Front Beach Road give you classic white sand and open water — perfect for that timeless beach look. St. Andrews State Park is a little more private, with dunes, tall golden dune grasses, and gorgeous light; don’t miss the Gator Lake area, the one spot where you’re actually allowed to walk out on the dunes, and it’s stunning. The piers and jetties add texture and a “we were really here” sense of place — and the pier casts shade even when the sun is still bright, which softens harsh light and gives us a flattering spot to shoot outside of golden hour.

The best time of day for beach photos
If you take one thing from this post, let it be this: light is everything. The hour just after sunrise and the hour before sunset — golden hour — gives you that soft, warm glow with no harsh shadows or squinting kids. Midday sun is bright and hot and tends to wash out that dreamy quality, so choose sunrise or sunset when you can.
What to wear
You don’t need matching outfits — coordinated, not identical, is the goal. Choose two or three soft, complementary colors, lean into light beachy tones, and keep everyone comfortable. Happy kids make the best pictures.
